Care guide for Woodmancote Retro furniture and homewares
Our products are designed to be easily maintained. With a little bit of care they are likely to last a lifetime and wood just gets better with age. Please note that all our furniture is designed to be used internally except where stated as outdoor furniture.
Recycled plastic stool seats and tabletops
The plastic we use is all recycled and post consumer waste. We suggest wiping down with a damp (not wet) cloth and drying carefully. When necessary we suggest using eco-friendly cream cleaners made for plastic, which are plant-based or biodegradable and following the manufacturers’ instructions. Scrubbing, abrasive sponges or scourers and corrosive cleaners should be avoided as they may damage the surface.
Wood seats and tabletops
We use local sustainable timbers and ply (ash, birch plywood and oak) and these usually have colour and pattern variations and sometimes knots. We believe this gives each piece of furniture its individual character. We finish our wood products with clear matt Fiddes Hard Wax Oil. We recommend using placemats and coasters to protect the finish from heat and moisture. For daily cleaning we suggest wiping down with a damp (not wet) cloth and drying carefully. When necessary we suggest using an appropriate cleaner such as Fiddes Wood Surface Cleaner. Care should be taken that wood is porous and can be susceptible to environmental factors such as excessive moisture or heat. To maintain seats and tables we suggest treating with a suitable product such as Fiddes Hard Wax Oil approximately every 12 months, following manufacturers’ instructions.
Steel frames/shelf brackets
Our frames and shelf brackets are powder coated tubular steel. We suggest cleaning using a soft dry cloth to wipe away any dust and dirt or when necessary wiping down gently with a damp (not wet) cloth and drying carefully. It is recommended that any surface water is not left and removed with a dry cloth. Scrubbing, abrasive sponges or scourers and corrosive cleaners should be avoided as they may damage the surface.
Homewares
For our recycled plastic, wood or metal products, please follow the care advice above for the relevant material. We suggest regularly wiping our soap dishes to avoid discolouration from soap products and residue.
Chopping Boards
All our chopping boards are made from solid ash hardwood and are treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil for protection, which is food safe. We suggest wiping down after each use with a damp (not wet) cloth.
As these items will be well used, the finish may discolour over time. To protect your chopping board we suggest retreating with a food safe oil, such as Fiddes Hard Wax Oil and following manufacturers’ instructions. The food grade steel handles can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Scrubbing, abrasive sponges or scourers and corrosive cleaners should be avoided as they may damage the surface.
